Għajn Tuffieħa

Għajn Tuffieħa is a sandy beach in Mġarr with reddish sand and clear Mediterranean waters, bordered by steep clay cliffs and natural rock formations. The shoreline curves gently along a sheltered bay where the water deepens gradually.

A defensive tower was built in 1637 by the Knights Hospitaller under Grand Master Giovanni Paolo Lascaris to watch over the bay. This watchtower shows the military past of the island during an important period of its protection.

The name Għajn Tuffieħa comes from Maltese language roots and links local traditions to the natural landscape. You can see how this place fits into the everyday rhythm of island life and connects people to their coastal heritage.

Access to the beach means walking down many steps, so wear comfortable shoes and allow extra time. During busy periods, arriving early helps you find parking more easily and beat the crowds.
