RNH Mtarfa, Military hospital complex in Mtarfa, Malta
The Royal Navy Hospital Mtarfa stands as a substantial medical facility with architectural elements from the early 20th century military design standards.
Constructed in 1912, the hospital expanded its capacity from 200 to 2000 beds during World War II by incorporating nearby barracks and tented wards.
The facility was renamed to David Bruce Military Hospital in 1951 to honor the scientist who identified the bacterial disease brucellosis.
The former naval hospital structure now houses Haileybury Malta, an international school that opened its doors in September 2023.
The hospital foundation required an initial investment of £55,000, with £17,950 spent by March 1916 during its construction phase.
