Palazzo Falson, Historic house museum in Mdina, Malta
Palazzo Falson is a palace and museum in Mdina with Norman architectural elements preserved in stone and craftsmanship. The building spans two levels organized around a central courtyard and houses collections of European furniture, paintings, silver objects, and Mediterranean artifacts from different periods.
The building was constructed around 1495 as a medieval townhouse reflecting the architecture of that era. Captain Olof Frederick Gollcher acquired it in 1927, made it his residence until his death in 1962, and it later became a public museum.
The rooms reveal how wealthy families lived in Mdina, with furnishings and objects reflecting their daily world. You see historical weapons, jewelry, and coins that show what people valued and considered important in past centuries.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and offers audio guides in several languages. Plan to spend time exploring the collections carefully, as the rooms are filled with many details to discover.
The building houses a private library with thousands of books and manuscripts, including rare works from various periods. Among the most unusual objects are a historical timepiece from the French Revolution era and a medieval protective device that shed light on rarely discussed aspects of social history.
