Cavalier Tower, Medieval defense tower in Qrendi, Malta

The limestone tower features an octagonal design with three stories, connected by cordons and topped with box machicolations supported by corbels.

The structure dates from either the late medieval period when Malta belonged to the Kingdom of Sicily or the 16th century under the Order of Saint John.

The designation 'Cavalier' refers to its function as a residence for a Captain of the Order, marking its role in the Maltese Knights hierarchy.

The tower remains a private residence not open to visitors, with an underground air shelter that was added during the twentieth century.

This structure stands as the only octagonal tower in Malta, incorporating its entrance within an adjacent medieval building that functioned as a mill room.
