Ta' Xindi Farmhouse

Ta' Xindi Farmhouse is a two-story limestone structure perched on a hillside with traditional Maltese vernacular design and modest architectural elements. The building maintains its residential character while preserving elements that reflect its historical past.

During the French blockade between 1798 and 1800, the farmhouse served as headquarters for over 550 Maltese soldiers resisting French occupation under Vincenzo Borg's command. This period established it as a significant location in Malta's struggle for independence.

The building reflects how rural communities organized their daily work and storage through its layout and construction methods typical of the period. Its design tells the story of how families integrated farming operations within their homes.

The farmhouse is located near Mater Dei Hospital and is reasonably accessible from main roads in the area. It is advisable to check access conditions beforehand since the building retains its residential function.

A commemorative plaque on the facade marks where the British flag was first raised in Malta during the resistance against French control in 1799. This moment was part of the broader shift in the island's political fortunes.
