Central Region, Former administrative region in Malta
The Central Region was an administrative division on Malta comprising twelve municipalities, including major towns like Birkirkara, Sliema, and St Julian's. The area contained residential neighborhoods, commercial centers, and entertainment districts across its territory.
The region was established as an administrative unit in 2009 and served as an organized territorial division for over a decade. In 2019 it was replaced by the Eastern Region and ceased to exist as a separate administrative structure.
The region contained multiple residential neighborhoods, commercial centers, educational facilities, and entertainment districts that reflected Malta's contemporary urban development.
The area is located on Malta's main island and is easily accessible by public transportation connecting its constituent towns. The municipalities that once formed this administrative unit are now organized independently.
The area was notable for its mixed composition of tourist centers like Sliema and local communities like Birkirkara existing side by side. This blend created a setting where visitors and residents coexisted, revealing the contrasts of Maltese urban life.
