Sarria Church, Roman Catholic Rotunda church in Floriana, Malta
Sarria Church is a circular building in Floriana containing seven large paintings by Mattia Preti, with the central artwork above the main altar depicting the Immaculate Conception. The interior features a clear geometric design shaped by the dome and the balanced arrangement of these artworks throughout the space.
Knight Fra Martin Sarria Navarra founded the original chapel in 1585, while the current structure was built after the 1675 plague as a gesture of gratitude. The rebuilding marked the community's determination to renew its spiritual hope following the devastating epidemic.
The main altarpiece shows the Virgin Mary overcoming the plague, with angels lowering their swords and boats bringing sick people from the isolation hospital. The image reflects the community's gratitude for surviving this crisis.

This is the only church designed by Italian artist Mattia Preti, who spent his final years in Malta from 1660 to 1699. His combined work as both architect and painter makes this place an unusual example of artistic versatility in religious architecture.
