The memorial features a 15-meter Travertine marble column crowned with a 2.4-meter gilded bronze eagle atop a circular stone base.
Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated this memorial on May 3, 1954, to honor 2,298 Commonwealth aircrew members who died in Mediterranean air operations.
Bronze panels around the base display names of fallen soldiers, with the Royal Air Force motto 'Per Ardua Ad Astra' inscribed on the circular foundation.
The memorial stands near Triton Fountain and City Gate, at the entrance to Valletta, with coordinates 35.8936° N and 14.5082° E.
Lloyd Allan Trigg VC DFC, commemorated here, received the Victoria Cross based solely on enemy testimony of his military actions.
