Delta State, Administrative division in southern Nigeria

Delta State spans across 18,050 square kilometers of land with mangrove swamps, lowland forests, and a 160-kilometer coastline along the Bight of Benin.

The region transformed from being part of the Western Region to becoming an independent state in 1991, originating from the former Bendel State.

The region encompasses multiple ethnic groups including Isoko, Urhobo, Ijaw, and Itsekiri communities, each maintaining distinct traditional practices and languages.

The state contains 25 local government areas with Asaba as its capital city, positioned strategically along the Niger River in the northeastern section.

Delta State generates 30 percent of Nigeria's petroleum production while supporting populations of dwarf crocodiles, grey parrots, and African manatees in its waters.
