Ogba Zoo & Nature Park, Zoological park in Oredo, Nigeria
Ogba Zoo & Nature Park is a 750-acre facility in Benin City that houses lions, pythons, antelopes, tortoises, and other animal species in naturalistic enclosures. The grounds also contain a botanical garden with more than 100 plant species spread throughout the park.
The zoo was established in 1965 as a conservation center for Nigerian wildlife. Over the decades, it expanded and transformed to accommodate more animal species and improve visitor facilities.
The zoo functions as a place where visitors can learn about the animals and plants of Nigeria. Walking through the grounds, you see how local communities value wildlife education and nature appreciation.
Bring your own food and drinks since refreshment options on the grounds are limited. Plan to spend several hours walking through the different sections to see the animals and gardens at a comfortable pace.
The park keeps python collections in specially designed enclosures where visitors can observe these reptiles up close. Many people overlook how central these snakes are to understanding the local ecosystem and wildlife diversity of the region.
