Okomu National Park, National park in Edo State, Nigeria.

Okomu National Park is a rainforest reserve in Nigeria featuring lowland forest mixed with swamp areas and diverse vegetation types. The landscape varies across different zones, creating habitats suited to many animal species throughout the park.

The area was first protected as a wildlife sanctuary in 1935 to safeguard its animals and plants. Decades later in 1999, it gained national park status to strengthen long-term conservation efforts.

Local communities actively participate in conservation work and benefit when visitors come to explore the forest. This partnership has helped people living nearby understand how protecting the woods matters for their own wellbeing.

Two elevated tree platforms let you look over the canopy and watch for animals moving through the forest. Prepare for uneven ground and damp conditions, especially during rainy months, when trails can become muddy and slippery.

The park serves as a refuge for endangered animals that are disappearing from the surrounding region. Several monkey species found nowhere else nearby, forest elephants, and over 150 bird types make this one of few places where you can still see them.
