Celestial City, Imeko, Religious compound in Imeko, Nigeria
Celestial City spreads across hills near the Benin border with prayer areas, conference facilities, and worship structures throughout the tropical savannah setting. Temporary accommodation spaces scatter across the grounds, though numerous construction projects remain incomplete.
Samuel Oshoffa established this religious center in 1983 following divine revelations and was buried on the grounds after his death in 1985. His final resting place became a focal point for pilgrims and believers from across the region.
Every December, thousands of Celestial Church members gather here for Christmas celebrations and religious ceremonies with special anointments. The community uses this space for collective worship and spiritual practices that define the calendar year for believers.
Prayer spaces, conference facilities, and overnight accommodation are available throughout the grounds. Plan to arrive with time to explore the site, especially during December celebrations when the compound becomes quite crowded.
The grounds were previously dedicated to Orunmila, the Yoruba deity of wisdom and divination, before becoming a religious center. This layering of spiritual traditions makes the location a noteworthy meeting point between older practices and contemporary faith.
