State Security Service, Intelligence agency in Abuja, Nigeria
The State Security Service is a domestic intelligence body in Abuja, Nigeria, with its main facility located on Aso Drive in the capital. The organization gathers information on internal security matters through regional outposts in every state of the country.
President Ibrahim Babangida created the State Security Service in 1986 as part of a reorganization of security structures. The agency replaced parts of the former National Security Organization and took over intelligence duties within the country only.
The State Security Service maintains security protocols during traditional ceremonies and national celebrations where government officials participate in public gatherings.
Access to government buildings in the area is managed through checkpoints where staff verify identity. Visitors should allow enough time for security procedures and keep official identification ready.
The main building is locally called the Yellow House because of its exterior color scheme. Within the compound are laboratories for electronic countermeasures and specialized scanners for material analysis.
