Wase Rock, Mountain formation in Plateau State, Nigeria.
Wase Rock rises 350 meters above ground level, featuring steep vertical sides and a summit divided by a narrow split in the rock formation.
The volcanic formation emerged from ancient geological processes, leaving behind a trachyte neck as the remaining evidence of a former large volcano.
The Nigerian government maintains the area as a wildlife sanctuary, protecting 321 hectares of land surrounding the mountain for environmental conservation.
Visitors need to obtain permits from local authorities to access the rock formation, and climbing activities require proper mountaineering equipment and experience.
The rock formation serves as one of only five breeding locations in Africa for the Rosy White Pelican birds, making it essential for species preservation.
