Kaag en Braassem

The municipality spans over 72 square kilometers, including 63 kilometers of land and 9 kilometers of water networks across ten distinct towns.

Kaag en Braassem emerged on January 1, 2009, through the consolidation of two separate municipalities, Alkemade and Jacobswoude, forming a new administrative region.

The municipality maintains traditional Dutch infrastructure with numerous waterways, windmills, and historical churches spread throughout its ten constituent towns.

The area houses 27,541 residents and connects to neighboring cities through an extensive network of roads and waterways in the western Netherlands.

Professional athletes from this region include Olympic sailor Cornelis van Staveren and cycling champion Joop Zoetemelk from the town of Rijpwetering.
