Aa en Hunze, Municipality in Drenthe, Netherlands.
Aa en Hunze is a municipality in the northeastern province of Drenthe in the Netherlands, covering approximately 278 square kilometers. The area is characterized by rivers, forests, and farmland that shape its natural landscape.
The municipality was formed through the merger of several smaller communities on January 1, 1998. Gieten was designated as the administrative center of the newly created municipality.
The municipality takes its name from two rivers that flow through the area: the Drentsche Aa and the Hunze. These waterways shape how people experience and connect with the landscape around them.
The municipality lacks direct railway connections, so bus networks serve as the main transportation option for residents and visitors. An extensive bus system connects the various towns and links the area to surrounding regions.
Despite its substantial land area, the municipality has a relatively low population density, meaning nature and green spaces remain abundant. Visitors will find generous open areas and less densely settled regions compared to many other places.
