Parktheater Eindhoven, Performance venue in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Parktheater Eindhoven is a theater in the center of Eindhoven with several halls of different sizes, each set up for a specific type of performance. The largest of these, the Philipszaal, has a full stage designed to host opera, dance, concerts, and large theater productions.
The building opened in 1964 under the name Stadsschouwburg Eindhoven and was conceived from the start as the city's main cultural venue. Between 2005 and 2007 it went through a full renovation, after which it took its current name.
The Parktheater is one of the few venues in the Netherlands that regularly programs shows for very young children, from toddler concerts to school performances. On weekday mornings, it is common to see groups of children waiting at the entrance for their first theater experience.
The theater is in the city center and easy to reach on foot from Eindhoven's main train station. Hearing loop equipment is available free of charge at the service desk, and wheelchair spaces should be reserved in advance by phone.
The Philipszaal was modeled after Teatro Central in Seville, an unusual reference point for a theater in a Dutch industrial city. This link to southern Spain is reflected in the shape of the hall and its acoustic design.
