The People of Laaf, Interactive walkthrough and monorail ride at Efteling, Netherlands.
The People of Laaf is a walkthrough village with small-scale buildings and mechanical figures showing daily activities, connected by ground paths and an elevated transport system. The structures are arranged across multiple levels to create different viewing perspectives.
The attraction opened in 1990 and expanded Efteling with a miniature village meant to reflect traditional Dutch community life. It marked a shift in the park's offerings toward new types of experiences beyond standard rides.
The exhibition shows village customs through animated figures performing activities such as baking bread, making drinks, and tending gardens.
Visitors can use both ground-level paths and the elevated monorail system to observe scenes from different viewpoints. The best experience comes from combining both perspectives to discover all details of the moving scenes.
The mechanical inhabitants, called the Laaf people, continuously perform their daily routines in synchronized patterns across multiple building levels. These choreographed movements create an illusion of real community life that remains consistent on every visit.
