Kasteel Broekhuisen, Historical château in Leersum, Netherlands.
Kasteel Broekhuisen is a three-story château with a columned façade in classical style, situated in Utrecht province. The grounds span about 6 hectares of designed gardens and open spaces that extend toward a family tomb on Donderberg hill.
The castle was built in its current form in 1810 and underwent reconstruction after a fire in 1906. The rebuilding respected the original architecture, preserving its classical character.
The estate carries the name of the family that shaped it across generations and left their mark on the place. The geometric gardens create a setting where visitors can experience how the surrounding landscape and the building relate to one another.
The estate is best explored on foot, so allow time to walk through the gardens at a leisurely pace. There is a restaurant on the grounds where visitors can refresh themselves with regional specialties.
Between 2013 and 2016, the grounds served as a filming location for a Dutch television baking competition. During that period, the gardens attracted film crews and viewers, bringing extra attention to the estate.
