Rosandepolder, Polder with recreational lakes in Arnhem, Netherlands
Rosandepolder is a polder stretching along the Rhine River between Oosterbeek and Arnhem with two lakes and farmland. The southwestern lake serves for recreation and leisure activities, while the northeastern lake provides mooring spots for houseboats.
The area was originally the site of Rosande Castle, first recorded in 1313 and experiencing multiple destructions over centuries. The castle was finally demolished during the French occupation period around 1672.
The name Rosandepolder derives from Castle Rosande, with alternative theories suggesting connections to the red sand present in the region.
The area is easily reached from Arnhem and offers access to various recreational activities. Visitors should look for well-developed paths and safe shorelines along the lakes.
The area is fed by five groundwater brooks originating from nearby hills, including Seelbeek. These streams flow through a sophisticated drainage system into the Rhine and shape the polder's ecological character.
