Henschoten, Nature area in Woudenberg and Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Netherlands.
Henschoten is a nature area spanning roughly 2,200 hectares across forests, reserves, grasslands, and heathlands within and around the Den Treek-Henschoten estate. The landscape includes different terrain types that blend together, creating varied habitats for wildlife and plants.
The land has been managed for centuries according to Dutch farming and forestry traditions that shaped its current appearance. These historical practices created the mix of different landscape types visible there today.
The area serves as a learning center where visitors can join guided walks and workshops focused on local ecology and conservation. These activities help people understand how different habitats work and why protecting them matters.
Several marked trails and cycling routes start from various parking areas scattered throughout the area. The paths are clearly signposted, making it easy to find your way and choose a route that suits your interests and fitness level.
The area has dedicated cycling routes: a 22-kilometer blue route in the north and a 15-kilometer red route in the south designed for mountain bikers. These paths were specifically built to offer riders different challenge levels depending on which one they choose.
