Sint Urbanuskerk, Bovenkerk

Sint Urbanuskerk is a neo-gothic church in Bovenkerk featuring a hexagonal tower rising 65 meters above the surroundings. The building contains three naves and a transept, creating the characteristic layout of this architectural style.

Pierre Cuypers designed this building, which was constructed between 1875 and 1888 and replaced an older house of worship near De Poel. Its completion marked an important moment in the religious development of the region.

This is a central place of worship in Amstelveen where people gather for religious services and ceremonies throughout the year. The interior with its two pipe organs creates a spiritual setting that reflects the community's faith and traditions.

After extensive restoration following a fire in 2018, the church reopened for services at Easter 2023. Visiting times may vary depending on religious services and events, so it is best to check ahead before arriving.

The adjacent rectory was built before the church itself was completed and displays chalet-style features with red brick and wooden framing. This secondary building adds architectural variety to the overall complex and offers a glimpse of how such properties were once constructed.
