Narvik Municipality

The territory extends between mountains and fjords, with the town of Narvik serving as its administrative center along the Ofotfjorden in northern Norway.

The municipality formed in 1902 when Narvik separated from Ankenes, later merging back together in 1974 to create a larger administrative region.

The Sami people maintain their traditional reindeer husbandry practices throughout the municipality, contributing to the preservation of Arctic indigenous customs.

The municipal port remains free of ice throughout the year, processing 16 million tonnes of cargo annually through multiple waterfront sections.

The Ofoten railway line connects the municipality to Sweden through challenging mountain terrain, forming a vital route for iron ore transportation.
