Art Museums of Bergen

KODE is an art museum organization operating four buildings and three historic composer homes throughout Bergen. Together these locations display paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and historical musical instruments spanning multiple centuries.

The Rasmus Meyer Museum was founded in 1924 to preserve Norwegian art from the period between 1880 and 1920. This museum marked an early effort to safeguard the artistic heritage of Nordic modernism.

The museums host rotating contemporary art shows and create spaces where visitors engage directly with artists through talks and exhibitions. These gatherings connect people with current artistic conversations happening in the Nordic region.

An all-inclusive ticket allows visitors to access all KODE locations across the city. The museums are generally open Wednesday through Sunday, though individual buildings may have slightly different operating hours.

The collections include several important works by Edvard Munch beyond his most famous pieces, showing the range of his artistic practice. These paintings reveal how the artist developed his approach to capturing emotion in visual form.
