Ris Church

Ris Church is a Lutheran church in Vestre Aker featuring three significant bells from 1930, with the largest weighing 1,746 kg and representing the heaviest bell cast in Norway. The interior now accommodates approximately 500 visitors after modifications that removed certain benches and a section of the gallery.

The building opened in June 1932 after a construction period that required significant funding, with a notable portion coming from public donations. This community financial support reflects local commitment to the construction project.

The church displays stained glass art by Per Vigeland and contains a Christ sculpture by Sigri Welhaven above the chancel area. These artworks shape the interior and create a distinctive atmosphere when entering the space.

The church has a main entrance on the north facade with adequate space in front of the building for visitors. The interior is easy to explore, with clear sightlines and good lighting to view the artworks and bells.

The building deviates from traditional church architecture by following a north-south orientation instead of the standard west-east alignment. This uncommon orientation becomes apparent when observing the spatial arrangement and the position of the altar.
