Tverlandsbrua, Cantilever road bridge in Løding, Norway.
Tverlandsbrua is a concrete road bridge that spans 670 meters across the Saltfjord and rests on three twin-structured piers. The 23-meter-wide deck supports multiple traffic lanes with a main central span of 180 meters.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration opened this structure on November 9, 2013, after years of planning to improve transportation links between Løding and Vikan. This project represented a significant step forward in modernizing infrastructure across northern Norway.
The bridge links communities across the Saltfjord and represents an important connection for people and commerce in this remote part of Norway. It has become essential infrastructure that keeps coastal settlements engaged with each other despite the challenging natural landscape.
The bridge is open to vehicles of all sizes and provides the only direct route between Løding and Vikan across the fjord. Drivers should use caution during severe weather, as conditions can be harsher on the exposed structure.
The bridge incorporates spiral transition curves and a 4.5 percent gradient along its length to allow smooth driving even during storms and heavy snow. These design features help vehicles maintain safe passage even when wind and visibility become difficult.
