Abaga Falls

Abaga Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall system that flows through dense forest southwest of Iligan City on Mindanao. Underground springs feed the cascades through multiple tributaries, creating natural pools throughout the landscape.

The name Abaga comes from the Cebuano language, referring to the shoulder-shaped cliff where the water drops. This naming reflects a long history of connection between local communities and this location.

The local communities view this waterfall as a sacred place, connecting it to beliefs about protective spirits that maintain the balance of nature.

Reaching this waterfall requires walking along undeveloped paths since the area lacks maintained roads and established facilities. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and come prepared for physical exertion when trekking through forest trails.

The waterfall is fed by underground springs that make it roughly twice the height of the nearby Maria Cristina Falls. This geological feature makes it a rare hydrological formation in the region.
