Pavia, municipality of the Philippines in the province of Iloilo
Pavia is a small municipality in Iloilo province, located about 10 kilometers north of Iloilo City. The town consists of 18 barangays spread across about 2,715 hectares, making it the smallest municipality in Iloilo by land area.
Pavia was originally settled by Malays and later by Chinese traders, as shown by archaeological findings. The town was officially established in 1848 during Spanish rule and gained full independence in 1921 after being part of other municipalities.
Pavia has strong Catholic roots that shape daily life in the town. Residents gather regularly at the red brick church for services and celebrations, especially during religious festivals and processions that bring the community together.
Visitors can enjoy simple activities like walking through local markets with fresh produce and visiting small cafes along the streets. The flat terrain and short distances make it easy to explore on foot or by local transport.
The annual Carabao-Carroza Race held on May 3rd highlights the historical importance of water buffalo to farming and local culture. Decorated floats and racing competitions attract visitors from nearby towns and keep alive a distinctive celebration.
