Museo ng Muntinlupa, Local history museum in Tunasan, Muntinlupa, Philippines
Museo ng Muntinlupa is a five-story building located along Centennial Avenue containing exhibition galleries, a science center, and a theater across 3,000 square meters of space. The structure features distinctive ochre columns and wire netting designed to manage the building's internal temperature naturally.
The museum opened on March 1, 2019, coinciding with the 24th anniversary of Muntinlupa's establishment as a city following two years of construction. This timing made the opening a meaningful milestone in the city's development.
The building's design incorporates the shape of a salakab, a traditional fishing trap used in Laguna de Bay that reflects the region's long relationship with fishing. This architectural choice connects the structure directly to a craft that has been central to local life for generations.
The building's theater accommodates around 200 visitors and provides comfortable seating for presentations and events held there. The natural temperature regulation system keeps the interior comfortable regardless of outdoor heat conditions.
The Buhay Gallery displays an original araro farming tool from one of the region's oldest families, revealing the deep agricultural heritage of the area. In contrast, the Talino Gallery showcases laboratory equipment that demonstrates the region's more recent scientific advancements.
