Description
Toruń Fortress is a military defensive complex encircling the city with a series of interconnected fortifications. The system includes seven main forts, six intermediate ones, and numerous artillery emplacements and shelters built using Prussia's latest 19th-century engineering.
History
Prussia constructed this defensive network between 1872 and 1894 in response to fears of potential attacks from the east. The construction marked the transition point in fortress design when older methods gave way to modern fortification concepts.
