Boyen Fortress, Military fortress in Giżycko, Poland.

Boyen Fortress is a military complex built in a hexagonal shape that sits on a narrow strip of land between two lakes. The massive walls and multiple gateways reveal the structure of a large-scale Prussian defensive installation.

A Prussian king ordered the construction of this facility in the middle of the 19th century to protect the border region. The project stretched over more than a decade and was one of the largest building efforts of its time.

The fortress carries the name of General Hermann von Boyen and stands as a symbol of Prussian military authority in this region. Visitors can observe how this place shapes the identity of Giżycko and remains central to local stories and memory.

The grounds are open year-round and offer multiple pathways to explore the installations. Sturdy footwear is advisable since paths wind across grass and uneven ground.

During World War II, the installation served as a center for secret operations where captured military personnel participated in special programs. This dark chapter remains a quiet part of the place's history.
