Gmina Żukowo

Gmina Żukowo is an urban-rural municipality in Kartuzy County in northern Poland. The territory covers approximately 164 square kilometers and includes the town of Żukowo along with about 28 rural villages like Banino and Chwaszczyno.

The territory gained importance in 1209 when Duke Mestwin I of Pomerania founded a Premonstratensian monastery. This monastic establishment marked the beginning of organized settlement and shaped the region's development for centuries to come.

The region maintains traditional Kashubian embroidery practices, particularly in creating decorative women's bonnets called zlotnice with silver and gold threads. This craft tradition shapes the local cultural identity and passes from one generation to the next.
