Zabór

Zabór is an administrative village in Zielona Góra County that spreads along the northern and western shores of Liwno Wielkie Lake. The settlement serves as the center of Gmina Zabór and features several buildings, including a castle from the 1600s.

The settlement first appeared in written records in the 14th century under the Latin name Saborin while under Polish rule. It remained under the Piast and Jagiellon dynasties until the early 1500s, a period that shaped its early development.

The name Zabór comes from Polish elements meaning 'beyond the forest,' reflecting how the village sits near wooded areas. This naming choice reveals how the landscape shaped the local identity and settlement patterns in the region.

The village is located roughly 15 kilometers east of Zielona Góra and connects to the regional road network for easy access. Visitors can reach it by car or public transport from the nearby city, making it a straightforward trip from the urban center.

A Baroque castle built in 1677 stands as the main architectural landmark and was originally owned by the Schoenaich-Carolath family. This structure provides insight into the local nobility's influence and the region's architectural heritage from that era.
