Transmitter Szczecin-Kołowo, Radio transmission tower in Kołowo, Poland.
The Transmitter Szczecin-Kołowo is a radio broadcast facility in Kołowo, a forested area near Szczecin in northwestern Poland. The site has two masts of different heights, the taller of which reaches 267 meters.
The first mast was completed on March 30, 1964, and broadcasting began later that same year. A second and taller mast was added afterward, while part of the original structure was kept on site.
The transmitter stands in the middle of a beech forest, which gives it an unusual look compared to typical broadcast infrastructure. Visitors who pass through the woods often notice the masts only when they are quite close.
The facility sits on a forested hill and can be reached on foot, though the path involves some uphill walking. Clear weather makes it much easier to spot the masts through the tree cover.
The shorter of the two masts, standing at 61 meters, is what remained after modifications carried out in 1989. It now stands next to the much taller main mast, making the two structures look noticeably mismatched.
