Gmina Olkusz

Gmina Olkusz is an urban-rural municipality in Lesser Poland Voivodeship that combines the town of Olkusz with surrounding villages. The area spans across diverse terrain that includes both developed town centers and less built-up rural spaces.

The municipality took its current form in 1999 following nationwide local government reforms that reorganized territorial divisions. These changes established the administrative boundaries that define the area today.

The district maintains strong connections with neighboring municipalities through shared traditions, while functioning as an administrative center for over 50,000 residents.

The municipal office is located in the town of Olkusz, positioned about 37 kilometers northwest of Krakow. This location makes it convenient to use the town as a central point when exploring the broader area.

Part of the territory falls within the Krakow Valleys Landscape Park, an area dedicated to natural preservation. This creates an interesting mix of urban development and protected natural spaces within the same administrative boundaries.
