Koniaków

Koniaków is a mountain village located on the slopes of the Beskid Śląski range in southern Poland at roughly 700 meters elevation. The settlement spreads across hillsides with traditional mountain homes surrounded by meadows and forests.

The village formed in the first half of the 17th century when people from nearby Istebna moved to the area seeking new grazing land. This migration was driven by restrictions placed on land use by local rulers.

Local women create handmade cotton lace through crochet work that can be seen in homes and small workshops throughout the village. This craft shapes daily life and gives the place its identity.

The village has regular connections to nearby towns and offers access to hiking trails and winter sports facilities in the surrounding mountains. Visitors should come prepared for hilly terrain and variable weather conditions.

Lace products from the village reached distinguished recipients including royal and papal households, gaining international recognition for local craftsmanship. This worldwide reputation made a small mountain village famous for exceptional textile work.
