Wrocław South Park, City park in Wrocław, Poland.
Wrocław South Park is a green space in the city of Wrocław, Poland, laid out with walking paths, a central pond with fountains, and open lawn areas. It sits between Powstańców Śląskich and Sudecka streets and has several gates that allow entry from different sides.
Julius Schottländer founded the park in 1877, working with landscape architect Hugo Richter and botanist Ferdinand Cohn to shape its layout. In 1995 it was listed as a historical nature reserve, a status that still protects it today.
A monument to Fryderyk Chopin, placed here in 2004, gives the park a quiet artistic character that visitors often notice as they walk past. The paths draw people of all ages throughout the day, from morning joggers to families spending the afternoon outdoors.
The park is easy to reach by tram or bus, with stops near the main entrances on both surrounding streets. Comfortable shoes are a good idea since the paths wind through different parts of the grounds and can take some time to explore fully.
The grounds are home to around 109 different plant species, a direct result of the botanical expertise that Ferdinand Cohn brought to the original design. This variety sets it apart from most city parks and is one reason it received protected status.
