Olsztyn Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Olsztyn, Poland
St. James Cathedral is a brick church in Olsztyn that rises above the city with its sturdy walls of red brick. The structure features octagonal pillars, stellar vaults, and a tall stepped gable on its east side.
Construction started in the late 14th century, following the architectural style of the cathedral in Frombork as a model. The building developed over the centuries as a major religious center in the region.
The two Late Gothic winged altars from the 16th century display the religious craftsmanship of that era. These wooden sculptures still stand in their original positions within the church today.
The cathedral is located in Olsztyn's Old Town and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors can join guided tours or attend regular mass services offered throughout the week.
During July and August, the interior becomes a concert venue for organ music performances. The acoustics created by the high vaults make these events particularly special for music lovers.
