Pomnik Tadeusza Kościuszki w Łodzi, Monument in Plac Wolnosci, Lodz, Poland
The Tadeusz Kosciuszko monument in Lodz is a 17-meter-tall bronze statue set on a granite base with symbolic design elements. The figure stands prominently at the northern end of Piotrkowska Street, serving as a major sculptural landmark in the city center.
The original monument was built in 1930 but was destroyed by German forces in 1939 during the occupation. It was reconstructed and reinstalled in 1960 following designs by sculptor Mieczyslaw Lubelski.
The reliefs on the base depict moments from Kosciuszko's life, showing his role in shaping political movements and his connections with other historical figures.
The monument is located at the northern end of Piotrkowska Street and is easily accessible on foot. The site sits near major transport hubs and makes for a natural gathering spot when exploring the city center.
Several original sculptural elements survived wartime destruction by being hidden in a warehouse, and these recovered pieces were incorporated back into the rebuilt monument. This survival of artwork through deliberate concealment makes the site historically layered in ways many visitors do not expect.
