Chryszczata, Mountain summit in Carpathian Mountains, Poland
Chryszczata is a mountain summit in the Beskid Niski range of the Polish Western Carpathians, reaching about 997 meters. The peak stands in a forested area close to the Slovak border and is reachable by several marked trails.
The Beskid Niski range is part of the Carpathians and was shaped over millions of years by tectonic movements. In earlier centuries, the valleys around the peak were home to pastoral communities, mainly Lemkos, who used the forests and pastures of these mountains.
The summit sits along the European long-distance trail E8, which runs from Ireland to Turkey. Hikers on this route pass through a quiet stretch of the Polish Carpathians, far from the busier tourist areas.
The summit is reached by marked trails that are manageable for people with a basic level of fitness. A mountain shelter nearby can serve as a starting point or a place to rest, which is handy if the weather turns.
Despite the Beskid Niski being one of the lower Carpathian ranges, the peak has a topographic prominence of 189 meters, meaning it stands clearly above the terrain around it. This makes it a well-defined top in its area, which is something that goes unnoticed by most casual hikers.
