St. Michael Archangel's Church, Turzańsk, Orthodox church in Turzańsk, Poland
St. Michael Archangel's Church is a wooden structure featuring a three-part layout with five domed towers and vertical timber boarding on its exterior. The interior contains religious artwork and paintings that reflect the faith and traditions of the local community.
The building was constructed between 1801 and 1803 following a fire that destroyed the earlier chapel. Over the following decades, extensions and repairs were made to adapt the structure to the changing needs of the community.
The interior walls display religious artwork including an iconostasis and paintings that show the daily life of the local Lemko community. These works give visitors a window into the traditional faith practices and artistic traditions of this region.
The church is located in the Podkarpackie region and forms part of a wooden architecture route that connects several historic buildings. Visitors can easily combine it with other wooden churches nearby to learn more about regional building traditions.
The building was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013 as part of the Wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathian Region, recognizing the skilled craftsmanship of its builders. This designation honors the exceptional historical and architectural value of such rare wooden structures.
