Paniewo Lock, Twin-chamber lock in Płaska, Poland.
The Paniewo Lock spans 88 meters in length with two separate chambers measuring 41.41 and 43.64 meters, featuring wooden gates and a width of 5.95 meters.
Built between 1826 and 1828 by Michał Horain, the lock underwent significant reconstruction from 1973 to 1979 following extensive damage during World War II in 1944.
The lock stands as number 324 in the Polish cultural heritage register, representing early 19th-century engineering achievements in the Augustów Canal system.
The lock operation takes approximately 40 minutes to complete, managing a vertical water level difference of 6.29 meters between Lake Paniewo and Lake Krivoy.
Located 61 kilometers along the canal, this structure remains the sole twin-chamber lock within the entire Augustów Canal navigation system.
