Tatra Museum in Zakopane, Cultural heritage museum in Zakopane, Poland.
The Gmach Główny Muzeum Tatrzańskiego is the main building of a museum in Zakopane that exhibits minerals, rocks, and regional artifacts. The collections are displayed across multiple exhibition halls spanning three floors.
In 1888, friends of physician Tytus Chałubiński established the museum to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Tatra Mountains. The building itself was constructed between 1913 and 1922, displaying features of Zakopane style.
The ethnographic section displays traditional Goral interiors, regional costumes, musical instruments, sculptures, and furnishings from mountain cottages in the Podhale region. Visitors can see how people lived in these highland villages and the crafts that shaped their daily life.
The museum is open daily except Tuesdays and features multiple exhibition halls along with temporary exhibitions. A café and educational spaces are available for visitors.
The exterior features original wooden doors and wrought-iron staircase railings characteristic of the local building style. These details reflect the craft traditions that the museum itself documents.
