Akcent Zoo in Białystok, Municipal zoo in Białystok, Poland
Ogród Zoologiczny Akcent is a zoo in central Białystok that specializes in animal species native to northeastern Poland. The grounds are laid out with walking paths connecting separate enclosures for different groups of animals.
The zoo was founded in 1960 as a modest animal collection and kept a simple form for several decades. From 2012 onward, a major renovation changed the layout and living spaces across the whole site.
The zoo focuses on animals native to the Podlaskie region, including bison, wolves, and brown bears that locals recognize from the nearby Białowieża forest. Visitors here get a close look at wildlife that is part of everyday life and landscape in northeastern Poland.
The zoo is open throughout the year, though opening hours vary by season so it is worth checking ahead of your visit. Most of the paths are outdoors, so comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing make the walk easier.
The zoo has information stations fitted with tactile elements and Braille text, allowing visitors with visual impairments to explore the animal exhibits. This makes it one of the few facilities of its kind in the region to offer these tools directly on site.
