Dom Akademicki "Ołówek", Student residence tower at Grunwaldzki Square, Wrocław, Poland.
Dom Akademicki "Ołówek" is a 70-meter-tall (230 ft) student residence in the center of Wrocław, rising 20 floors above the street. The building is entirely dedicated to student housing and contains around 236 rooms spread across its floors.
The building was designed by Professor Marian Barski from Wrocław University of Technology as part of a broader push to expand student housing in the city. It was built in the second half of the 20th century and was one of the first high-rise student residences in Wrocław.
The nickname "Ołówek" means "pencil" in Polish, a reference to the building's tall and narrow shape. Students from across Poland and abroad live here together, which gives the area around Grunwaldzki Square a noticeably young energy.
Because this is a private student residence, access to the interior is not open to the public. The exterior is easy to see from the street, and the nearby Grunwaldzki Square offers a good angle to take in both towers at once.
Right next to the "Ołówek" stands another student residence called "Kredka", which means "crayon" in Polish. Together, the two slender towers form a playful pair that students in Wrocław recognize at a glance.
