Granacka Przełęcz, Mountain saddle in Tatra Mountains, Poland
Granacka Przełęcz is a mountain saddle in the Tatra range positioned at 2145 meters between two prominent peaks, with steep rocky terrain descending on both sides. The pass features narrow sections and exposed ground that form a natural corridor along the ridge.
The saddle was first documented in 1899 when explorers began mapping routes through this exposed terrain in the high peaks. A winter ascent in 1910 demonstrated how demanding this passage becomes during harsh mountain conditions.
The pass forms part of the renowned Orla Perć trail, which represents one of the most technically demanding hiking routes in the Polish Tatra Mountains.
The route requires steady footing and a good head for heights, as several sections drop away sharply on either side. Metal chains are in place for the steepest passages, and alternative routes exist if weather deteriorates suddenly.
This saddle serves as a junction point where multiple ridge routes meet, making it a critical waypoint for experienced hikers connecting different alpine trails. The exposed position means weather changes can occur rapidly, turning conditions from clear to hazardous within minutes.
