Orla Baszta, Mountain peak in Tatra Mountains, Poland.
Adlerbastei is a mountain peak in the Polish High Tatras, positioned between Buczynowa Valley and Panszczycka Valley. The summit has steep rock walls on multiple sides, giving it a tower-like profile that stands out from the surrounding ridgeline.
The peak was named around 1901 by Franciszek Henryk Nowicki, a figure active in the High Tatras at the time. The first recorded ascent followed on August 26, 1902, led by Janusz Chmielowski.
The name Adlerbastei means something close to eagle's tower in German, evoking a tall rock that rises like a fortress. Climbers approaching from below can see exactly why this image felt natural to those who named it.
The summit lies along the Orli Perc, the Eagles Path, and requires experience with alpine climbing and a steady head for heights. Some sections are very exposed, with vertical drops close by, so sure footing and full attention are needed throughout.
Despite its German name, Adlerbastei sits entirely within Polish territory, reflecting the mixed language traditions of early mountaineers who explored the Tatras. German-speaking and Polish climbers worked side by side in mapping and naming these peaks during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
