Góra Moraska, Hilltop nature reserve in Poznań, Poland
Góra Moraska is a nature reserve set on a wooded hill in the northern part of Poznań, reaching 154 meters above sea level and marking the city's highest point. The hill is covered with dense forest and crossed by a network of marked hiking paths.
The area drew scientific attention in 1914 when local farmers found several meteorite fragments nearby, leading researchers to study the formations around the hill. Those discoveries gave the site a broader role in understanding how cosmic events have shaped the local landscape.
The hill is a popular destination for people from Poznań who come here to walk among the trees and step away from the city. School groups and families regularly use the forest paths, making it a place where city residents stay in direct contact with nature.
The summit can be reached by following a yellow-marked trail that connects with other paths in the northern part of the city. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, as the forest tracks can be slippery depending on the season.
Beneath the forest floor lie large water tanks built between 1978 and 1988 that supply part of the city's water. Their presence is almost impossible to detect from the surface, as the woodland above gives no hint of the infrastructure below.
