UAM lapidarium in Poznań, University garden with stone collection in Poznań, Poland.
The UAM Lapidarium is an open-air exhibition with geological specimens, architectural components, and stone artifacts distributed throughout the garden. The collection includes both fossil wood remains and stone fragments from various sources and is supported by informational panels.
The garden was created in 1994 as a memorial for the 75th anniversary of Adam Mickiewicz University and contains fragments from regional structures. It also preserves wood remains dating back more than 2700 years, showing how plants grew in earlier times.
The collection displays architectural pieces from different periods of the city, including fragments of a neo-Romanesque railing and stones from regionally important buildings. Visitors can discover the variety of materials used in local architecture over the centuries while walking through the garden.
The garden is freely accessible and located near Dziegielowa Street in the Rozany Potok district. The grounds can be visited anytime and require no preparation, with information panels on-site explaining each stone.
Two massive glacial boulders display distinct scratches and marks from the advance of the Scandinavian ice sheet during the last Ice Age. These rocks are visible evidence of the geological forces that shaped the landscape thousands of years ago.
