Fort V w Poznaniu, Military fort in Naramowice, Poland
Fort V in Poznan is a fortification with extended defensive flanks and a gunpowder magazine built into its main earthen embankment. The structure preserves several original buildings including the front caponier and infantry rampart exits.
The fort was built between 1879 and 1883 as Waldersee I, part of the defensive ring around Poznan. During World War II it functioned as a prison and hospital facility.
In 1931, the fort received a new designation honoring the Mycielski family, who played important roles in Polish history.
The fort is located on Lechicka Street in the Naramowice district and is easily accessible. Visitors should be prepared for uneven terrain and some exposed areas, so comfortable footwear is advisable.
Between 1952 and 1960, sections of the fort were torn down and buried to make room for a planned bypass road that was never completed. This abandoned project left buried remnants that remain underground today.
